Murder inquiry launched in Co Londonderry

Police have begun a murder inquiry after the body of a man was found at a farmhouse in Co Londonderry.

Patrick Devine's body was discovered at the Claudy farmhouse shortly after 12pm on Monday. It is understood that he suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Detectives have confirmed that several holes were discovered in the kitchen window of the house where his body was found. A motive for the killing has yet to be established.

A post mortem examination is scheduled to be carried out later today while forensic experts are expected to continue their search of the property.

The suspect has been named by the PSNI as Nathan Simpson, and he is charged with the murder of his mother, Rachel Simpson, at her home on the Castlereagh Road last Friday.

'Nothing Untoward' Found During East Belfast Security Alert
A large-scale security alert in east Belfast ended with "nothing untoward" being found. The security alert began just before 10.25am on Monday, 05 August, when police were informed by an unnamed elected representative that they had been told a number of devices had been left in the vicinity of playing fields in the Church Road area of the city.

Larne Murder Probed
The police have set up a special incident room in Larne and are urging anyone with information to contact them as they probe the violent death of a father-of-two found stabbed in the Co Antrim town. The victim, named locally as Kenneth Nicholl, was found dumped in an alleyway after being attacked on Saturday night.
