Beryl Cook Aids fundraiser exhibition set for November
Fans of the artist Beryl Cook will be able to feast their eyes on a selection of her rarely seen works at an Aids fundraising dinner in Belfast in November.
Some of Ms Cook's most famous titles published during the last 29 years; including 'Girls in a Taxi', 'Ladies Night', 'Meadow Suite', 'Getting Ready', and the first exhibiton of 'Four Hungry Cats' will be on display.
All exhibits, including the original sketch, will be available for sale with prices ranging from £200 to £10,000. A Beryl Cook original can now command around £30,000 - a far cry from the mid-seventies when she started out and sold work at £10 a time.
At the age of 79, Cook continues to paint and uses the recurrent theme of mostly large ladies having a good time. Early works drew inspiration from her experiences of running a boarding house and the pub is a source of amusement to Cook. Her work is featured around the world as Greeting Cards, Limited Edition prints, calendars and books.
Alex Best, wife of former footballer George Best, who is patron of Aids 2000 will attend the event at Bourbon Restaurant, Belfast, on Wednesday 10 November.
For further information, call organiser Jean Dennis of Beryl Cook Exhibitions on 01727 848887 or Kathy Tully at the Bourbon Restaurant on 028 9033 2121.
Admission is free.
