Co Down firm to create 28 new jobs

A Co Down plastics firm has announced plans to create 28 new jobs through a new development project aimed at increasing company sales.

Moira-based Clarehill Plastics Ltd, which specialises in the manufacture of moulded plastic oil tanks (under the brand Harlequin), said the planned development project would involve a serious investment in R&D to "extend and diversify" their current product range and the introduction of a new IT system to increase workplace efficiencies.

Brian McCann, Managing Director of Clarehill Plastics Ltd, said: “This is an ambitious project for us, but one that is set to reap significant rewards, the improvements we plan to make will allow us to strengthen the Harlequin brand and move into new and more profitable markets throughout Europe.

"By focusing on R&D we are also ensuring that our company retains its competitive edge and creates new products that will enhance our existing client base.”

Mr McCann said the extra jobs would help his company to extend its European reach into new markets. A planned 12,000 sq ft extension on their current six acre site will also ensure that the company has enough floor space to accommodate its increased output.

It is receiving a £300,000 revenue grant from Invest NI for the project.
