Belfast software firm behind online Irish Times initiative
The Irish Times has launched a new online PhotoSales service using software from Belfast-based software company Memsis.
The PhotoSales service at www.ireland.com/photosales is the latest initiative on ireland.com, the Irish Times' website, which has seen its Irish readership jump by almost 50% in the last year with typical page impressions in excess of 15m per month.
The PhotoSales service will supplement a range of online functions including access to the premium news service, comprising The Irish Times, the breaking news service, a searchable Archive of newspaper articles since 1996, and micro-sites including, sport, technology and business.
The PhotoSales application allows users to search an online archive of over 140,000 digital images from award winning Irish Times photographers. Selected photos can also be printed in a range of sizes on high quality Fuji paper that lasts over 100 years. At its heart is the Memsis MediaBase digital asset management system, which was recently launched in Washingtington DC.
The general manager of ireland.com, Ms Una O'Hare, said that she was optimistic about the uptake of the PhotoSales service. "We have been providing photographs to customers for years, but we hope that this new online facility will open this service up to a whole new global market."
Aidan McGrath, CEO of Memsis added. “We are delighted have been part of this initiative. The MediaBase and MediaShop products are well suited to a large dynamic site like Ireland.com. They are designed to cope with large volumes of digital media “
