Arsonists target Derry centre for the elderly
Arsonists have targeted a community centre that works with local elderly people in Londonderry.
The fire at the Galliagh Community Development Group office in Fergleen Park was discovered at about 11pm last night.
Part of the building was destroyed in the blaze which is believed to have started after a number of youths stuffed burning rags and paper through an extractor vent into a kitchen.
The repair bill for the building is likely to run into thousands of pounds however staff have been able to carry on some of the centre's work thanks to a back up computer system.
Staff at the centre contact more than 250 elderly people on a daily basis to ensure they are safe and well.

Over 800 young people from schools in Lisburn and Castlereagh attended a hard-hitting road safety message at the PSNI Road Safe Roadshow on 19 November. The roadshow, supported by AXA Insurance and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership, aims to educate young drivers about the dangers of irresponsible driving.
