Met Office issue weather warning

The Met Office has again issued a severe weather warning for Northern Ireland as heavy rain continued to batter the province.

It follows a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon by the Department for Agriculture and Rural Development warning motorists of roads affected by flooding across the province.

These include: Springfield Road, Greystowns Avenue, Crumlin Road, Stockmans Lane at the Railway Bridge (passable with care), Finaghy Road North, Glen Road, Upper Malone Road and Upper Dunmurry Lane, all in Belfast.

Localised incidents have also occurred in Holywood, Lisburn, Hillsborough, Ballymena and Antrim. The Glen Head Road, between Larne and Ballymena, however, is now passable.

So is the bad weather that emergency teams from the Roads Service have used specialist equipment to help clear gullies in the centre of Belfast and firefighters had to tow one car to safety after it became stranded in a foot of water on the Finaghy Road in the west of the city.

Weather forecasters are predicting more bad weather for the remainder of the week with only a slight break in the rain coming on Saturday.
