Police raid home of Co Down priest
Police have raided the home of a Catholic priest in Co Down it was revealed at the weekend.
Father John McCallum, the parish priest of Kilcoo, near Castlewellan, had computers and financial records removed during last weeks search however police would not comment on the reason for the investigation.
In a statement the Catholic Church stressed that no allegations had been made against Father McCallum, but it was confirmed that the Co Down priest had stepped down from all ministerial duties pending the outcome of the police investigation.
"Bishop McKeown met the priest and the priest has stepped down from all ministry pending the conclusion of that investigation," the statement read.
"Bishop McKeown has informed the parishioners of the position at the vigil Mass in Kilcoo.
"Since that police investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate for the diocese to make any further comment at this time."

Teen Arrested Over Bomb In Brompton Park Area
Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the discovery of a "substantial bomb" in north Belfast on Friday 1 May. The device was discovered in the Brompton Park area after a local priest alerted the police. The suspect was arrested following searches on Thursday morning. He is being detained at Antrim police station.

Man Questioned Following River Bann Death
A 26-year-old man is still being questioned in connection with the death of a 21-year-old Owen McKeown. Mr McKeown’s body was recovered from the River Bann on Sunday following a search by rescue teams and around 50 volunteers.

Senior officers from the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) probing a multiple terrorist murder helped to cover-up the involvement of a Roman Catholic priest. He was thought to be an IRA man and to have been closely involved in the bombing of Claudy, Co Londonderry in 1972.

Murder Investigation Launched Into Disappearance Of Damien Heagney
The PSNI's Major Investigation Team have launched a murder investigation into the disappearance of 47-year-old Damien Heagney from Cookstown. Mr Heagney was reported missing on Tuesday 19 July and police have said that they are "keeping an open mind" they now believe that he has been murdered.
