Mother and two daughters escape 'suspicious' house fire
A mother and her two daughters have been rescued from a fire at their home in Co Down early this morning.
The blaze, which occurred at the house in Trasnagh Drive in the Scrabo area of Newtownards at around 4am, is believed to have been started deliberately. Police say they are treating the incident as suspicious.
Homeowner Rosalind Stewart, 48, managed to escape with both daughters after waking up to the smell of smoke. They managed to get to the front door where they were met by police officers who guided them to safety.
Mrs Stewart said the fire was meant to kill both her and her daughters following a recent attack on their home by a gang of men armed with hammers.
She blamed local elements on both attacks saying they had a grudge against her daughters.
