Memorial Fund to issue leaflet to every NI household

Every household in Northern Ireland is set to receive a leaflet detailing the help they can receive thanks to a new memorial fund aimed at those bereaved or injured as a result of the 'Troubles'.

The Northern Ireland Memorial Fund said it hoped to reach 80% of victims who are unaware that help is available.

Fund director George Lavery revealed that, of the 40,000 victims affected by Northern Ireland's 'Troubles', only 12,000 were aware of the Fund's work.

"It's a big campaign as we're trying to hit every household in Northern Ireland," he said.

"We're sending out about 600,000 leaflets and over the course of the next two weeks every household should have a leaflet fall through their letterbox.

"And through that campaign we hope to get the people who haven't come forward so far."

Set up in 1999, the Fund has attracted just 20% of those eligible for aid through its work.
