Man 'critically ill' in hospital

A man has been taken to hospital after being found unconscious in Belfast city centre on Wednesday night.

The man was found in a small park near the junction of Victoria Street and High Street, shortly before 6pm.

Medical staff in the Royal Victoria Hospital, where the man is being treated, described his condition as "critical", however no details have yet been released of what kind of injuries he sustained.

Police have arrested one man in connection with the incident but have appealed for anyone who noticed anything as they drove past the junction of Victoria Street and High Street at around 6pm to contact them.

A man arrested in connection with a murder in Lurgan on Sunday, 06 August, has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The body of a man, aged 45, was discovered at a flat on Victoria Street. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man Charged With Making Threats To Kill
A 30-year-old man has been charged with making threats to kill. He has also been charged with disorderly behaviour. He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court today. The charges relate to an incident which occurred at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast over the weekend, following the fatal shooting of Edward Gibson.

Road Works To Get Started In Belfast
The Department for Regional Development will start work on a number of junction improvements in Belfast city centre next week. The improvements on Grosvenor Road/Durham Street and Hope Street/Great Victoria Street are part of the Belfast On The Move Transport Masterplan which will give higher priority to public transport, pedestrians and cyclists.

Virus closes hospital beds across province
Hospitals in Northern Ireland are struggling to deal with the effects of a common virus which has left people waiting on trollies for beds and caused a severe backlog in surgery. The virus, which affects patients and staff, comes as hospitals throughout the province struggle to cope with an increased number of patients because of winter illnesses.
