Police Investigate Serious Assault in L'Derry
Police in L'Derry have launched an investigation following a serious assault on a man in the Creevagh Heights area of the city.
Detectives received a report at approximately 10.15pm on Saturday, 12th April, stating that a number of men wearing balaclavas forced their way into a residential property and attacked the occupant, a man in his 30s.
The injured man was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment to injuries sustained to his leg, head, and hands. While serious, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Detective Inspector Hanbidge condemned the attack: "Horrific violence has been inflicted on this man that will leave physical and mental scars, along with trauma that may never heal. No good comes from this, ever." Police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist their investigation.
"Anyone with information that could help our investigation is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1946 12/04/25," Detective Inspector Hanbidge urged. "We are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage of the area yesterday evening, Saturday 12th April."

Youths Charged With Maghera Murder
Two teenagers have been charged with the murder of Piotr Krowka in Maghera earlier this year. The body of the 36-year-old Polish national, who was homeless at the time, was found in a derelict building on the Glen Road on Tuesday 03 April. Mr Krowka had suffered serious injuries to his head and body.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.

A man has been arrested in connection with police inquiries into a murder in 1988. The body of Lily Smyth, 66, was found in her flat at Moveen House in Dunmurry on October 9, 1988. The pensioner had been strangled. A police spokesperson said that a 43-year-old man had been arrested and is being questioned at Antrim Police Station.

A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.
