Rate Bills To Be Issued Across NI From Next Week

The Department of Finance (DoF) has announced that rate bills for the 2025/26 financial year will begin to be issued to households and businesses across Northern Ireland from Thursday, 03 April 2025.

Last year, almost £1.6 billion was collected in rates, which the DoF highlighted as vital funding for essential public services including health, education, and infrastructure. The revenue also supports council services such as waste management, leisure facilities, economic initiatives, and tourism amenities.

Ratepayers can expect their bills to include a breakdown of the rates assessed for the upcoming financial year, details of any rate relief awarded, and any outstanding rate arrears carried forward for payment.

A range of application-based rate relief schemes are available to those who are eligible. These include the Rate Rebate for individuals receiving Universal Credit and a discount for pensioners over 70 who live alone. Businesses may also be able to access various rate support schemes, with further information available on the www.nibusinessinfo.co.uk/ website.

Domestic ratepayers can avail of a 4% discount if they pay their 2025/26 rates in full on or before Friday, 9th May 2025.

The DoF outlined several payment methods, including Direct Debit, online payments, and in person payments at Post Offices or PayPoint locations. Further details on how to pay can be found on the NI Direct website.

The Department is urging everyone with a responsibility to pay rates to do so, emphasising that these payments are crucial for funding the public services that citizens and businesses rely on.

Land & Property Services (LPS) is encouraging anyone experiencing difficulty in paying their rates to contact them for advice on the support available. Full details can be found on the NI Direct website.

Ratepayers who believe there is incorrect information on their bill, or who have not received a bill by the end of April, are advised to contact LPS on 0300 200 7801.
