• A notable increase in the perception that Northern Ireland welcomes refugees, rising from 25% in 2017 to 43% in 2024.

• A majority (63%) believe media negatively impacts perceptions of refugees and asylum seekers.

• A decrease in those wanting more opportunities to meet asylum seekers or refugees, from 44% in 2023 to 36% in 2024.

• Just over half (51%) agree asylum seekers should have equal access to employment.

The report highlights a complex picture, with a decline in support for refugee protection coinciding with an increased perception of welcome.
