Fivemiletown Library Reopens After Multi-Million Redevelopment

Fivemiletown Library in County Tyrone has reopened following a major redevelopment project.

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons officially opened the newly rebuilt and extended facility, which aims to meet the changing needs of the local community.

The library, which originally opened in 1978, has been modernised with energy-efficient heating and lighting, and improved accessibility, including a new Changing Places facility.

"Fivemiletown Library has been transformed into a bright, modern space offering a full range of library services," said Minister Lyons. "There really is something for everyone in the community, young and old, with flexible spaces for reading, studying and hosting events."

The library will host a variety of initiatives, including book clubs, digital skills e-clinics, yoga and mindfulness sessions, author visits, and local history talks.

"The building itself is a great example of how sustainable design can create welcoming spaces which will fit the needs of the local community for years to come," added Minister Lyons.

Dr Jim O'Hagan, Libraries NI Chief Executive, said the opening marked "an investment in the future of this community".

"With enhanced library services and a thoughtfully designed sensory garden, this outstanding facility will be a valuable space for everyone in the community to learn, to engage with others, and to be inspired," he said.

The library's reopening coincides with the inaugural Fivemiletown Cultural Heritage Festival – Tracks From the Past.
