Portuguese youth attacked in racial assault

The upsurge in racial attacks in Northern Ireland continued yesterday after a Portuguese youth was attacked in Co Londonderry.

The 19-year-old was assaulted and subjected to racial abuse after being stopped by a man on Spencer Road, Londonderry, at around 2.30pm.

The attacker also threatened to kill the youth before spitting in his face.

Police have described the man as being 5' 10" tall, in his mid 20s, with cropped black hair and unshaven. He was wearing a thigh length khaki jacket, red shirt and red boots.

Police in Londonderry have appealed for information following the assault of a Polish man yesterday evening. It has been reported that three men approached the victim as he walked along the Lower Violet Street area of the city at around 7.15pm.

Woman Paid £2,000 Over Alleged Racial Discrimination
The Home Office has paid a woman £2,000 over alleged racial discrimination at Belfast City Airport. The woman was leaving her mother-in-law off at George Best Belfast City Airport when she was stopped and asked for a passport or ID.
