"This attack on an elderly person in their own home is appalling," Detective Inspector Lavery continued. "Vigilantism has no place in our society, and we are fortunate the outcome wasn't more serious."

Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. They are particularly interested in anyone who saw or heard suspicious activity, or who has CCTV or other footage that could be relevant to the investigation.

You can also submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.
