Man Extradited From Republic Of Ireland To Face Murder Charges
A 62-year-old man has been extradited from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland to stand trial for the murder of three RUC officers in 1982.
The man, originally from the Lurgan area, was arrested in the Republic of Ireland on 21st August 2024. Extradition proceedings were completed today, Thursday 30th January, and he has been returned to Northern Ireland.
He is expected to appear before Craigavon Magistrates Court later today. Sergeant Davey from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's International Policing Unit said: "The Police Service of Northern Ireland has been liaising closely with An Garda Siochana and today's arrest demonstrates the benefits of joint working between police forces and other national partner agencies. In this particular case, we worked closely with the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Legacy Investigation Branch and An Garda Siochana to locate this male and bring him before the courts. We will continue to work closely with our partners to bring offenders before the courts and deliver justice to victims and their families."

Missing man may be in Northern Ireland say police
Police in Lancashire are appealing for witnesses into the whereabouts of a 62-year-old man who went missing last month. Frederick Hankinson is believed to be in Northern Ireland after his grey Ford Mondeo car was found parked in the Stena Line ferry terminal in Stranraer on Monday 4th August. He went missing from his Lancashire home the day before.

The first trainees from Northern Ireland’s new police force, recruited on a 50-50 Catholic-Protestant basis, have graduated at an historic ceremony in Belfast. The much talked-about event also showcased the first public use of the uniform, crest and service flag brought in as part of Royal Ulster Constabulary reforms.

Bobbies lobby Westminster for better working conditions
Around 5,000 off-duty police officers from across the UK came together to Wednesday to demonstrate outside Westminster to protest against planned reforms of the service. Led by the Police Federation of England and Wales, officers of the Police Service of Northern Ireland played their part in the daylong lobbying event on Police Reform.

PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher has welcomed Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, to the Northern Ireland Police College, Garnerville, on Monday 19 August. The Chief Constable and Sir Keir met a number of officers injured during recent disorder in Belfast and L'Derry.
