£1m Funding Announced For Storm Éowyn Recovery Efforts

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has announced £1 million in funding to support those impacted by Storm Éowyn.

Speaking during a visit to a Community Assistance Centre in Carryduff, Minister Lyons acknowledged the significant challenges faced by many communities across Northern Ireland.

"Over the weekend I activated the Non-flooding Scheme of Emergency Financial Assistance (SEFA) to ensure immediate, on-the-ground support with Community Assistance Centres operating across every Council area," said Minister Lyons.

"Today I am extending the scheme and have ring-fenced funding of up to £1 million for outreach services, delivered in partnership with councils and the community and voluntary sector, to ensure the right supports are in place in the right way for those most in need."

The funding will be used to support community assistance centres, provide emergency supplies of hot meals, fund transport to and from centres, and provide other essential services.

"I would like to commend all of our partners, including councils, NIHE, Libraries NI, and community and voluntary groups and individuals who have worked selflessly to make sure help is in place for people in hardship," added Minister Lyons.

The Minister emphasised the importance of a coordinated response: "I have been working closely with Ministerial colleagues to ensure a joined-up approach to delivering supports."
