70-Year-Old Ballymena Man Jailed For Axe Attack
A 70-year-old Ballymena man has been jailed for an axe attack in the town in September 2020.
At Laganside Court on Monday, 16th December, William Kirkpatrick, was jailed for nine years in connection with the assault at the Russellstown Road area of Ballymena on Monday 14th September 2020.
Detective Inspector Lyttle said: "William Kirkpatrick entered a house where he assaulted a man with an axe. The victim suffered serious injuries to his head where he required hospital treatment.
"Two other people who tried to intervene were also assaulted by Mr Kirkpatrick.
"Mr Kirkpatrick was previously convicted of multiple offences, including wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon and common assault.
"(The) sentencing offers reassurance that we will work tirelessly to bring offenders before the courts so that the victims receive the justice they deserve.
"Anyone who believes they are a victim of crime, contact police on the non-emergency number 101."

A 39-year-old man, Wojciech Lubinski, has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years' imprisonment at Antrim Crown Court following a domestic-related assault in Ballymena last year. He will serve three-and-a-half years in custody, with the remaining two years on licence.

Police revisit scene of Ballymena sexual assault
Police in County Antrim have revisited the scene of a serious sexual assault on a man, which happened last week in Ballymena. The 20-year-old victim was out jogging on the Broughshane Road, close to Ballymena rugby club on February 9, when he was dragged into the back of a white van and assaulted by two men.
