Police Appeal After Arson Attack In Newtownards

Detectives have renewed an appeal for information following a deliberate arson attack at a vacant property in the Weaver's Grange area of Newtownards.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 November, 2023. Police and firefighters were called to the scene at around 12:40am.

The fire caused significant damage to the front door and smoke damage throughout the property. Firefighters determined that the fire was started deliberately, with an accelerant poured over the door and through the letterbox.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

Superintendent Johnston McDowell said: "This was a completely reckless attack which could have had serious consequences for those in the neighbouring property. We are following a number of lines of enquiry and would appeal to anyone who may have seen anyone suspicious in the area at the time of the fire or to anyone who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage that could assist with enquiries, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 40 of 17/11/24.
