The Executive-approved framework outlines a whole-of-government approach to address pressing issues such as obesity, food poverty, waste, climate change, and biodiversity loss. Minister Muir emphasised the interconnectedness between food, health, the economy, and the environment.

He highlighted the potential of Northern Ireland's food system to benefit the health, economy, and environment. The Minister committed to developing an action plan in early 2025 to outline specific steps towards transforming the food system.

Minister Muir praised Carrick Greengrocers as and example of a community-owned business that prioritises local, seasonal, and nutritious food. He encouraged everyone to value food and its origins, and thanked food producers for their contributions.
