Ministers Unite To Promote Road Safety
Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd has welcomed Executive support for the 'Share the Road to Zero' road safety initiative. Ministers have come together to record a video encouraging the public to take responsibility and care on the roads.
Minister O'Dowd highlighted the devastating consequences of road traffic collisions and emphasised the collective responsibility to reduce road deaths. He pointed out that human error, such as careless driving, excessive speed, and drink or drug driving, is a major factor in most road accidents.
With 71 road deaths in 2023, the highest number in eight years, and 57 deaths so far this year, the Minister stressed the urgent need for action. He urged drivers to prioritise safety, be mindful of others on the road, and avoid reckless behaviour.
The Minister emphasised the human cost of road accidents, highlighting the impact on families and friends of those who lose their lives. He urged everyone to play their part in reducing road deaths and making roads safer for all.
John O'Dowd added: "The PSNI, NI Ambulance Service and the NI Fire and Rescue Service have also joined my department, along with DoJ and DAERA colleagues, to form the Strategic Road Safety Forum, which is looking at how we can work together to improve outcomes."

Man Extradited From US Over Historical Child Sex Abuse
A 68-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for a series of indecent assaults on a child in the 1970s. Damien Desmond Anderson, originally from L'Derry, was extradited from the US to face justice. He was convicted of 12 counts of indecent assault against a female who was 11 years old at the time of the abuse.

Arson Attack On 5G Mast In West Belfast
Detectives in Belfast are investigating a suspected arson attack on a 5G mast in the Andersonstown Road area. The incident occurred around 9.55pm on Wednesday, November 13th. Detective Sergeant Faulkner confirmed that officers attended the scene alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who successfully extinguished the blaze.

Four Arrested Following Disorder In South Belfast
Four men have been arrested following public disorder incidents in the university area of south Belfast on Thursday, November 14th. Police responded to a number of offences, including resisting and obstructing police, and assault on police. Three men, aged 18, 20, and 21, have been charged and are due to appear in court in December.
