Downpatrick road victim named

The man who died following a road traffic collision in Downpatrick yesterday has been named locally as 41-year-old John McCormick.

Mr McCormick was driving a green Landrover along Bells Hill at around 8am when his vehicle collided with a Scania lorry and a red van.

He was immediately taken to hospital along with the drivers of the two other vehicles and a passenger in the landrover. However, Mr McCormick was pronounced dead on arrival. None of the other victims are believed to be in serious condition.

Detectives in Downpatrick have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 028 4461 5011.

Man Arrested For Headbutting Female Police Officer
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Newry for assaulting a police officer. While responding to a domestic related report, a local female officer was headbutted to the head, which caused swelling and bruising. Two Vehicles And Firearms Stolen In Co Tyrone
Two vehicles and firearms have been stolen in Ballygawley, Co Tyrone. The incident happened between Thursday night and Friday morning. Police believe the thugs entered a property on the Whitebridge Road and stole the keys of two vehicles, a Green Landrover Defender 90 and Silver Audi Q3, while the occupants were asleep upstairs.

A 64-year-old Downpatrick man has been sentenced to eight years for six counts of sexual assault against children. At Downpatrick Crown Court on Monday, 27 November, the man, named Damien Craig, was sentenced to four years in custody and four years on licence.

Drunk Driver Jailed For Running Couple Over
A man has been convicted of hitting a woman with his car while drunk. Paul McCormick, 29, from Coleraine will serve two and a half years in jail and has received a seven-year driving ban.
