County Down Man Arrested On Drug Charges

A man has been arrested on a number of drug offences following a search in County Down.

The police said they recovered quantities of suspected class A and B drugs worth a street value of approximately £115,000 at a house in the Ballykinlar area this morning.

Cocaine estimated to be worth around £100,000 and cannabis suspected to be worth around £15,000 was seized, as well as £45,000 in cash, along with other items.

Detective Sergeant Martin said: "A 38 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including possession of class A and B controlled drugs, possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs and possession of criminal property. He remains in police custody at this time.

"We are actively committed to removing dangerous drugs from our streets and proactively investigate and carry out searches to disrupt this activity, and those involved in the drugs trade. 

"If you have any information about the use or supply of drugs you can contact police on 101".

Man Arrested In Connection With Drug Seizure In Belfast
A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a drug seizure made during a police search operation in Belfast. Officers from the Belfast Central Neighbourhood Policing Team and officers from the Paramilitary Crime Task seized a quantity of suspected Class A and Class C controlled drugs.

NI Drug Deaths Double
The number of drug related deaths registered each year has more than doubled over the last decade rising from 39 deaths in 1997 to 86 last year. The 86 fatalities were registered in Northern Ireland where the cause of death was drug related, either due to legal or illegal drugs.
