"At our local libraries there is a range of literature, magazines, children's books and non-fiction to suit everyone's tastes, and I believe books and reading are for everyone. Libraries and the choice of services they provide are important in encouraging readers from an early age. High standards of literacy will only benefit our local communities and give individuals the confidence and skills to pursue their goals."

Minister Lyons added: "There are so many events happening this week including Unplug and Read, helping you swap your screen time for book time, The Big Read initiative and a host of author talks and other workshops taking place online or at a library near you."
