Man Arrested After L'Derry Ramming Incident

A man has been arrested following a dangerous driving incident in the city on the afternoon of Thursday 17 October.

Multiple reports were received by police around 1:45pm of a silver-coloured Lexus being driven recklessly in areas including Creggan Heights, Westway, and Central Drive. Responding officers located the vehicle in the Groarty Road area and arrested a male suspect.

Two police vehicles were damaged during the incident after being rammed by the arrested man. Unfortunately, two officers sustained injuries in the collision. The arrested individual remains in police custody. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Inspector Craig said: "We know this incident caused great concern in the community, and we had reports of near misses in relation to this. I want to thank members of the public who called us straightaway and made a report, which meant we were able to respond quickly.

"The police vehicles will now be off the road for repairs, which impacts on the local community.

"I would ask anyone who may have captured any relevant dash cam or doorbell footage that could assist us in this case, to please get in touch by calling 101, quoting reference 818 of 17/10/24."
