Drugs Worth £150,000 Seized In L'Derry

Police in Derry City & Strabane have seized a significant quantity of suspected Class A and Class B drugs following a proactive search operation.

On Friday, October 11th, officers from the Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a search in the city, resulting in the seizure of drugs with an estimated street value of approximately £150,000.

A 49-year-old man was arrested in connection with the seizure and remains in police custody. He faces charges including possession of Class A and Class B controlled drugs, possession with intent to supply, and being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs.

The seizure is a significant blow to drug-related activity in the area and demonstrates the ongoing commitment of police to tackling drug crime. Police also seized a scrambler during the search.

Man Arrested In Belfast On Slovakian Extradition Warrant

Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's International Policing Unit arrested a 22-year-old man in Belfast City Centre today.

The man is wanted in Slovakia to stand trial for assault and disorderly conduct. He was detained on a Slovakian extradition warrant for offences that occurred in Komarno, Slovakia in 2021. The man is scheduled to appear before Laganside Extradition Court later today.

Sergeant Davey from the International Policing Unit said: "Today's arrest is another example of PSNI working closely with International Partners to locate fugitives and bring them before the Extradition Courts.

"Our message is clear, Northern Ireland is not a safe haven for any wanted persons trying to avoid arrest and the consequences of their previous actions. We will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime."

Alliance Announces Two New Cllrs In North Down

The Alliance Party has announced Gillian McCollum as its new Councillor for Holywood and Clandeboye, as the party also welcomed John Hennessy as the new Councillor for Bangor East and Donaghadee.

Councillor McCollum replaces David Rossiter – who informed Alliance he was stepping down from his role last month due to gaining new employment.

Following her selection Ms McCollum said: "Alliance provides strong representation across North Down and I’m excited to continue to work to deliver for everyone locally and representing the people of Holywood and Clandeboye, a place I proudly call my home."

A new face within the Alliance North Down team, John said he was honoured to represent the Bangor East and Donaghadee area, having spent most of his professional life in the area.

He added: "I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Councillor Hannah Irwin in delivering the vital work Alliance has been delivering in the area. I’m passionate about what we can do to help local people and am looking forward to getting out into the community to hear directly from local people."

Man Arrested Following Assault On Pregnant Woman In Belfast
Police in south Belfast have arrested a man in connection with the assault of a pregnant 18-year-old woman in the Ormeau Road area. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 12th, around 5:30pm near Annadale Embankment. A man threatened the woman, snatched her mobile phone, and then assaulted her. Two other men intervened and stopped the attack.

Detectives Investigate Woman's Death In Randalstown
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 21-year-old woman in the Main Street area of Randalstown, which was reported to police on Saturday, October 12th. A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests.
