Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer In Belfast

A 19-year-old man has been arrested following a police pursuit in west and north Belfast on Wednesday evening.

According to authorities, officers from the Air Support Unit observed a motorcycle being driven dangerously in the west Belfast area around 10pm. The motorcycle was followed as it traveled through Beechmount and onto the Westlink before heading towards the New Lodge.

On the ground, officers were directed to the area to search for the motorcycle. They located a male in Henry Street who fled when they attempted to speak with him, discarding several items as he ran. The man was apprehended a short time later, and quantities of suspected cannabis were found on his person and along the route he had taken.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possessing a Class B drug, possessing a Class B drug with intent to supply, resisting police, and assaulting a police officer. He remains in custody at this time.

Inspector Rab McKay said: "Our enquiries into this matter are continuing and I would ask anyone who saw the motorcycle being driven dangerously in west and north Belfast on Wednesday night, or who captured dash-cam footage, to contact police in Woodbourne on 101, quoting reference number 1829 09/10/24."

Race Tragedy Shocker In Dublin
A Northern Ireland-based motorcyclist has died following a crash at the Killalane Road Races, near Skerries, in north County Dublin. Victor Gilmore, 42, from Ballymoney was critically injured after he came off his bike at around 1.20pm on Sunday. The Irish police said he was rushed to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, but was then pronounced dead.

Dead motorcyclist was police officer
One of the motorcyclists who died following an accident in Co Down on Tuesday was a police officer. The officer, who was named as Gerard Martin McCallion, 23, died when his motorbike collided with another motorcycle on the Ballymoney Road in the Craigantlet Hills at around 10.15pm.

Tributes have been paid to Northern Ireland motorcycle racer William Dunlop, who was killed following a crash during the Skerries 100 road race in Dublin. The 32-year-old Ballymoney rider was competing in an Open practice session when he crashed and later died from his injuries on Saturday, 07 July.

Two Die In Separate Motorcycle Crashes
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding two separate motorcycle crashes in Northern Ireland over the weekend, in which two people died. A 49-year-old died in Cushendun, County Antrim, when their motorcycle collided with a Suzuki SX4 on the Loughareema Road at around 10:35 on the morning of Saturday 31 May.
