Claire Hanna Ratified As New Leader Of The SDLP

Claire Hanna has been formally ratified as the new leader of the SDLP.

The MP for Belfast South and Down was the only candidate to stand to succeed Colum Eastwood, who announced in August that he was to stand down as party leader.

Speaking at the party's annual conference, Hanna reiterated a call for reform of Stormont's power-sharing structures, an issue she said her party "won't let this drop".

She said: “We'll do everything we can to make Stormont work, but we refuse to believe that that's as good as it gets."
