The collection includes Olympic-related materials, such as papers pertaining to Dame Mary Peters, Northern Ireland's first female athletics gold medalist. This launch is particularly significant as the nation celebrates its latest Olympians and Paralympians at a homecoming event at the SSE Arena on Thursday.

PRONI houses several collections of interest to sports enthusiasts, including those of the Irish Football Association, Northern Ireland Women's Football Association, and the Northern Ireland Athletes Federation. The organisation also welcomes new deposits of sporting records, such as minutes, photographs, correspondence, and membership lists.
