Residents Escape Injury After Arson Attack In North Belfast

A number of residents have escaped injury following an arson attack at a flat in north Belfast.

Liquid was poured over a door and set on fire at a property in the Skegoneill Avenue area on Thursday evening, 05 September.

The NIFRS attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.

Detective Sergeant McGearty said: "It was reported at around 8:45pm that a liquid had been poured over a door at a flat in the Skegoneill Avenue area and set alight.

"Our colleagues from the NIFRS attended and extinguished the fire. There were several people in the property at the time of the incident, thankfully none of them were injured.

"We are appealing to anyone with any information about this incident, or who may have doorbell/CCTV or dash-cam footage from the area which may be able to help with the investigation, to call police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1594 of 05/09/24."

Man Escapes Injury After Bin Set Alight In Dunmurry
A man has escaped injury after a wheelie bin was set alight at the back of his house. The incident happened at a property in the Glenbawn Square area in dunmurry between 1am and 2am on Friday, 26 May. Damage was caused after the bin was pushed up against windows of the property. A number of residents extinguished the fire.

Orange Order Agrees To Nationalist Talks
The Orange Order has agreed to engage in talks with a nationalist residents group in north Belfast, following an appeal by a unionist residents group. The Twaddell and Woodvale Residents Association asked local Orange lodges to speak to the Crumlin and Ardoyne Residents Association to find a way to help the 12th of July parades pass off peacefully.

Fire Service Appeals For Fireworks Safety
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has appealed to the public to take care when using fireworks, following statistics that showed last year was the quietest Halloween night for fire crews since 1989. On 31 October 2012, Northern Ireland fire fighters received 183 calls and attended 133 incidents across Northern Ireland.

Police have issued an appeal after a cyclist was injured during an incident with a pedestrian on the Lagan Towpath. The PSNI received a report of an incident in the McIlroy Park area at around 3.30pm on Monday, 07 October.

Renewed Appeal For Help To Trace 21-Year-Old Lee Johnston
The PSNI have issued a renewed appeal for help in tracing the whereabouts of 21-year-old high-risk missing person Lee Johnston, from the Coleraine area. Lee was first reported missing to police on the evening of Friday, 13th October and police said that it is "out of character" for Lee to not to have been in contact with his family.
