Colum Eastwood To Stand Down As SDLP Leader

Colum Eastwood is to stand down as leader of the SDLP, stating that he "wants to give someone else a chance" to re-energise the party.

Mr Eastwood, who has been party leader for 9 years, made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday, 29 August.

Stating that the "moment has come" for him to step down, he will officially resign from the role at the party conference on 05 October. This will allow the SDLP to select a new leader to take over the role.
