DfI Launches £236,000 Hamiltonsbawn Roadworks Scheme
The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has announced a £236,000 programme of carriageway resurfacing scheme for the A51 Marlacco Road in Hamiltonsbawn.
The resurfacing will extend for approximately 950 metres in two sections: 75 metres either side of the Ballyloughan Road junction and from approximately 200 metres West of junction of the Mullurg Road for 800m towards Hamiltonsbawn.
Infrastructure Minister, John O'Dowd, said: "This is a substantial investment for the Hamiltonsbawn area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. This demonstrates my commitment to improving our rural road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 23 August 2024. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by 23 August 2024, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
SF Hails Success Of West Belfast Community Events
Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has hailed local communities and organisations for ensuring another year of no bonfires in west Belfast last night.
The West Belfast MP said: "Féile an Phobail’s famous dance night and local diversionary events yesterday demonstrated the very best of west Belfast and its people.
"Many families enjoyed fun days throughout the city, while thousands of young people danced side-by-side in the Falls Park having the time of their lives.
"I want to praise the organisers and the community of west Belfast who once again ensured there were no unwanted bonfires, and instead chose to get behind positive and vibrant events.
"This is a shining example of what can happen when communities come together and celebrate in safe and inclusive environments.
"In defiance of the shameful events of the last week, this is the true face of our community."
UUP Representatives Of East Antrim Meet With PSNI Over Carrickfergus Attacks
Following a number of racist hate crimes in Carrickfergus last week, Ulster Unionist Party MLA for East Antrim, John Stewart, has met with senior PSNI officers.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Stewart said. "The attacks last week in Carrickfergus are utterly despicable and have no place in a civilised modern society.
"I spoke to senor PSNI officers this morning regarding last weeks’ race-hate attacks and am confident that every resource is being utilised to identify those who carried out these disgusting acts.
"My thoughts are with the families involved and I sincerely hope they are able to recover quickly from these traumatic incidents.
"Those responsible do not represent Carrickfergus. Our wonderful town of Carrickfergus is actually represented by the many hundreds of people and organisations who have come together to provide support and reassurance to the families involved.
"These shameful attacks must stop and I would appeal to anyone with any information to contact the PSNI on 101."

'Malicious' fires in west Belfast
Police in west Belfast are investigating two suspected arson attacks within the last 24-hours. The first incident was reported at around 9pm yesterday evening, when emergency services were alerted to a blaze at a house in the Gartree Place area of Andersonstown. No one was in the property at the time.
