Big Lottery Fund boosts NI childcare facilities
Pre-school facilities in Northern Ireland received a boost today with the announcement of six grants totalling £307,247 from the Big Lottery Fund.
The grants have been awarded under the Big Lottery Fund’s Building Quality Childcare programme which will invest £6 million into supporting the capital costs of projects across Northern Ireland which mainly meet the needs of pre-school children.
Projects in Belfast, Ardboe, Poyntzpass, Bessbrook and Newry have received grants in this latest round of awards which were developed in conjunction with Childcare Partnerships to enable children to access good quality childcare provision.
Announcing the grants Walter Rader, the Big Lottery Fund’s Northern Ireland Director, said: “These grants are paving the way for the creation of new childcare places by investing in much needed buildings and play facilities. The Building Quality Childcare programme is enabling communities to make a real difference to the lives of parents and children across Northern Ireland.”
Today's announcement comes as the Big Lottery Fund asks the Northern Ireland public to help determine its priorities, how it will make grants, what types of programmes it will support and how it can work to deliver even more effective and efficient Lottery funding.
Details of the public consultation are available on the Big Lottery Fund’s website at www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/consultation
