11 Police Station Enquiry Offices To Close On 01 August
The PSNI have confirmed that 11 police station enquiry offices will permanently close at the end of the month.
The closures had been announced in April this year, due to "the current financial and resource pressures facing the Police Service of Northern Ireland", reducing the number of enquiry offices from 28 to 17. The PSNI have highlighted that these are not station closures and each of the police stations affected will remain operational.
Speaking about this decision to close the 11 offices next Thursday, 1st August Assistant Chief Constable for Local Policing, Bobby Singleton said: "This decision follows an extensive review which included analysis of the volume and type of demand in enquiry offices.
"This review concluded that against the backdrop of wider resource challenges, the current service is neither sustainable nor effective.
"This is not a decision we have taken lightly, however, the PSNI is facing unprecedented financial pressure and savings are necessary to deliver a sustainable and effective organisation."
The PSNI currently operates 28 enquiry offices across Northern Ireland. One of these sites, Musgrave Street in Belfast, operates 24/7 with Strand Road, L'Derry, opening for 76 hours per week and the remaining 26 sites opening for 40 hours per week.
These 'front counters' are operated by Station Enquiry Assistants (SEAs), employed by a third party private sector contractor as part of a managed services contract.
From 1st August 2024 the following enquiry offices will close:
• In Belfast: Lisburn Road; Strandtown; Tennent Street; Woodbourne
• Bangor
• Banbridge
• Magherafelt
• Dungannon
• Lisnaskea
• Waterside
• Newtownabbey

PSNI Offices To Close 12 Hours A Day
All PSNI Station Enquiry Offices across Northern Ireland are to be reduced to a maximum of 12 hours as a result of budget cuts. The PSNI is required to save £38.4m by 31 March 2015 and will be faced with about 10% cuts next year. Changes to enquiry office opening hours will be implemented over coming weeks and months.

Three Police Officers Injured In Belfast Incident
A 35-year-old man has been arrested following an incident in which three police officers were assaulted in the early hours of this morning, Friday 13 December. The incident occurred around 12:20 AM on Dublin Road. When officers attempted to speak to the driver of a suspicious vehicle, he assaulted them and drove off a short distance.
