Sinn Féin Leader Comments On President Biden's Decision
Sinn Féin Leader, Mary Lou McDonald, has released a statement after President Biden decides to drop out of the 2024 US Presidential Election.
Mary Lou McDonald has reflected on Mr Biden's time in elected office, she said that it is important "to recognise that he played a significant role in supporting the peace process in Ireland".
In a statement, the party's leader said: "Throughout his Presidency his steadfast support of the Good Friday Agreement during Brexit helped ensure there was no hard border reinstated on the island of Ireland. The appointment of former US Congressman Joe Kennedy III as US Special Envoy for economic affairs to the North was welcome and constructive.
"President Biden’s successor must confront the ongoing Israeli slaughter in Palestine, the arming of Israel must end, impunity for Israel can no longer be tolerated. There is now an opportunity to act decisively to end the genocide and support the building of a peace process for the people of Gaza and all of Palestine. I hope that the incoming President of the United States will grasp the imperative and opportunity for peace and justice."
