NIFRS Tackles Blaze At Newry Premises

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has tackled a large fire at commercial premises on Greenbank Industrial Estate in Newry.

The NIFRS received a call at 11.47am on Saturday 13 July. During the height of the incident 16 fire appliances and over 50 firefighters and personnel were involved in the operation.

In a statement, a NIFRS spokesperson said: "Our firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the duration of the incident to ensure that the fire was brought under control and to extinguish the fire.

"We would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we dealt with the incident. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental ignition and the incident was dealt with by 3.58pm on Sunday 14 July 2024."

Further Race-Related Hate Crime Takes Place In Belfast
Police dealt with a number of race-related hate crime, incidents and disorder last night (8 August) in south and east Belfast. In south Belfast, car was set on fire and a window of a house was broken into on Benburb Street. Windows of a house were also smashed in Kilburn Street.

New Defective Premises Bill To Protect NI Homeowners
A new Defective Premises Bill to give NI homeowners the same protections as those in England and Wales, has been introduced by Communities Minister, Gordon Lyons. The Bill establishes a retrospective period of up to 30 years and a prospective period of up to 15 years in which a party can take action on defective premises.

NI's Chief Fire Officer Announces His Retirement
The Chief Fire Officer for Northern Ireland, Peter Craig, has announced that he is to retire after over 35 years of distinguished Service. Peter Craig is one of the longest serving officers in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and was appointed as Chief Fire Officer in February 2011, having been the acting Chief from July 2010.

NIFRS Announces New Policy To Reduce False Alarm Incidents
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has announced a new policy to address the growing challenge of false alarms and reducing unnecessary call-outs. The new False Alarm Policy will come into effect from 01 February, 2024, and is in response to the increase in false alarms which the NIFRS has said has "reached an unsustainable level".

Man Charged With Conspiracy To Commit Murder
A man has been charged in connection with a shooting in a Banbridge car park in April of this year. The 46-year-old man who has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder is due to appear before Banbridge Magistrates' Court, sitting in Newry Courthouse, on Thursday 8 August.
