Labour Win UK General Election

The Labour Party has won the 2024 UK General Election with a majority of 412 seats, to the Conservative Party's 121.

Sir Keir Starmer will be formally appointed Prime Minister by the King at Buckingham Palace today, Friday 05 July. Following this, the new PM will give his first official speech from Downing Street. He is also expect to being announcing his new cabinet later today.

Labour gained 211 seats in the election, while the Conservatives lost a significant 250 seats, described as a historic low in the party's history.

In other results, the Liberal Democrats won 71 seats, an increase of 63 from 2019. The SNP took 9 Westminster, a significant drop for the Scottish party, losing 38. Reform UK gained four new seats, with Nigel Farage returning to Westminster. Reform also saw the largest shift in voter share when compared with 2019 results, gaining 12.3% from 5 years ago.

Of the UK's over 48 million registered voters, 60% turned out to vote – a decrease of 7.6% from 2019.
