Sinn Féin Become NI's Largest Party At Westminster

Sinn Féin has become the largest Northern Irish party at Westminster as it retains its seven parliamentary seats.

The results see the nationalist party make history, becoming the largest party at Westminster, at Stormont and across NI councils.

NI's second largest political party, the DUP returned with 5 Westminster seats, a lose of 3.

The party lost Lagan Valley – previously held by Jeffrey Donaldson for 27 years – to Sorcha Eastwood of Alliance, South Antrim to the UUP's Robin Swann, and North Antrim to TUV's Jim Allister.

The largest upset of the night appears to be Ian Paisley Jnr's lose to Jim Allister, with the Paisley family having held the North Antrim seat for the last 54 years.

The SDLP returned two MP's to Westminster, with Colum Eastwood holding onto Foyle, and Claire Hanna securing Belfast South and Mid Down.

The Alliance Party didn't perform as well as they had hoped, with deputy leader Stephen Farry losing North Down to independent unionist Alex Easton. And while Sorcha Eastwood won Lagan Valley, party leader Naomi Long was unable to displace DUP's Gavin Robinson in East Belfast.

Both the UUP and TUV gained a seat each in Westminster, with Robin Swann winning South Antrim and Jim Allister winning North Antrim.

57% of Northern Ireland's almost 1.4 million registered voters turned out to the polls – a drop of 4.5% from 2019.
