260 New Homes To Be Built In West Belfast

Belfast City Council's Planning Committee has granted permission for a number of new development, including a social housing development with 260 homes in the Glen Road area of west Belfast and a 5-10 storey Grade A office building at City Quays.

Permission was also granted for a new three storey childcare building on the Ormeau Road and a temporary nursery/primary school and soft play area in Montgomery Road, east Belfast.

Radius Housing Association and Choice Housing submitted the plans approved for 260 homes on a 22 acre plot of land east of Meadowhill and north of Glencolin Court which will also include a children's play area. The development will be a mix of two and three-storey detached dwellings, semi-detached dwellings and apartment blocks.

Belfast Harbour submitted the planning application approved for the10 storey Grade A office building in lands west of Donegall Quay and east of Tomb Street. Currently a surface level car park, the development will comprise a retail area and area for community use on the ground floor as well as a seventh floor licenced restaurant with an outside terrace and a rooftop area.

Sólás Specialist Support Services charity submitted the planning application approved at the Parkmore Building, Ormeau Road, which will see the removal of existing temporary buildings for the construction of a new three storey childcare building with external play area.

Bunscoil na Seolta submitted the planning application approved for a temporary nursery/primary school and soft play area in lands adjacent and east of 44 Montgomery Road.

Councillor Arder Carson, Chair of the council's Planning Committee, said: "It's always good to see such a wide range of planning applications come before the Committee each month and this month is no exception.

"We're delighted to see approvals granted for all the planning applications this month, in particular, the social housing development approved for 260 new homes for residents in the city. It's also very welcome news for the proposed new nursery and primary school for Bunscoil na Seolta in east Belfast, the new childcare building for Sólás on the Ormeau Road and the new Grade A office building at City Quays."
