DAERA Welcomes Applications for €46 Million PEACEPLUS Funding
The Department of Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is inviting applications for €46 million in cross-border funding for biodiversity recovery and marine and freshwater sustainability.
Funding is available under the PEACEPLUS Programme. DAERA is encouraging eligible groups to apply for two programs managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) before the 10 July 2024 deadline.
DAERA hopes these programmes will lead to significant environmental improvements.
The funding will be delivered under two programmes with €24.9million available under Marine and Coastal Management and €21million for Water Quality & Catchment Management.
The Marine and Coastal Management funding will support a cross-border approach to protecting the marine and coastal environment from harmful human activities. It will also help in developing climate change adaptation plans to enhance the resilience of ecosystems, coastal communities, infrastructure and the marine economy.
The Water Quality & Catchment Management funding will see the development and management of cross-border water quality and catchment management programmes, designed to enable freshwater bodies in cross-border river basins to improve in water quality.
PEACEPLUS funding is a new European Union initiative aimed at supporting peace and prosperity in Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland. It builds on the achievements of the previous PEACE and INTERREG programmes for the 2021-2027 EU period.
