Belfast In Bloom Competition Returns For 2024
Belfast City Council has announced the return of the popular Belfast in Bloom competition.
Last year's winners included the Errigle Inn, Granny Annies, Ten Square Hotel, SPAR Malone Road, Knockbreda Community Wildlife Garden, Restore Glandore ATC Community Group and Belvoir Area Residents Group (BARG).
Dundela Infants' School in east Belfast, Fane Street Primary School in south Belfast and St John the Baptist Primary School in the west of the city also scooped awards.
This year, residents can enter for 'Best Hanging Basket', 'Best Window Box' and 'Best Front Garden'.
Community groups/organisations can enter for 'Best Community Street', 'Best Community Group' and 'Best Community Garden'.
Businesses can enter the commercial category for 'Best Hotel', 'Best Public House', 'Best Restaurant', 'Best Commercial Street' and 'Best Commercial Premises'.
Local schools can enter for 'Best Kept School Garden' in the north, south, east and west of the city.
There are also awards for 'Best Individual Allotment' and 'Best Allotment Site' in Belfast.
The competition is free to enter with the closing date for the school awards' category on Friday 21 June. The closing date for all other categories is Friday 26 July, with judging taking place in August.

Flight Diverted After Engine Fire
A Flybe flight from Glasgow to George Best Belfast City Airport was diverted to Belfast International after one of its engines caught fire. An emergency was declared at the airport as the plane was diverted, with fire crews and ambulances sent to the runway. It is understood that the plane was able to land.

Aer Lingus flights are to go from George Best Belfast City Airports as of the autumn. The airline is switching its operations there from its former base at Belfast International Airport. It will fly three flights daily in each direction to both London Heathrow and Gatwick.

Aer Lingus is to switch it operations from Belfast International Airport to George Best Belfast City Airport, it has been unveiled. It is believed flights could be moved in the coming weeks and a formal announcement will be made. It follows the end of BMI Baby Services from the City Airport, which carried 400,000 passengers every year.
