Civil Service Launches Trainee And Apprentice Recruitment Drive
The Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) has launched announced the launch of a new recruitment campaign for trainee and apprenticeship, with more than 100 places.
Opportunities will be available across a number of schemes including ICT, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The ICT Apprentice Level 1 and Level 2 schemes, Electrical Engineering Apprentice (Building Services), Mechanical Engineering Apprentice (Building Services) and Graduate Trainee Work Psychologist (Executive Officer 1) are open now. They close for applications on noon on Friday 21 June 2024, with candidates expected to start in September 2024.
Prospective applicants are being encouraged to consider applying for a place on an apprenticeship, trainee or graduate scheme as the first step to a rewarding career within the Civil Service.
You will play a part in making a real difference to people’s lives and these schemes are a great way to get involved in a wide variety of roles in the Civil Service, delivering and supporting essential frontline services.
You will also earn a salary, develop skills and gain a recognised qualification with a guaranteed permanent role within the Civil Service on successful completion of the apprenticeship and trainee schemes.
Other schemes including for Trainee Graduate Civil Engineering and Vehicle and Plant Fitter Apprenticeships are also opening for applications soon. Those interested in applying are encouraged to register online for the Weekly Opportunities Bulletin to receive notification when recruitment opens.

17,000 Civil Servants Complete JAM Card Accreditation
Finance Minister, Dr Caoimhe Archibald, has welcomed a major milestone for the Civil Service as 17,000 of its employees have now completed the JAM (Just a Minute) card accreditation. The JAM Card allows anyone with a learning difficulty, autism or communication barrier to tell others discreetly and easily they need 'Just A Minute'.

SDLP 'Not Planning' For Job Losses
There's been an angry reaction to news of expected job losses within the Planning Service. After the news that the construction downturn has left the jobs in jeopardy was revealed at the weekend, SDLP Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Tommy Gallagher has reacted angrily to the news that cut backs may well leave more local people unemployed.

'No Bonuses' For Public Sector Bosses
Senior Northern Ireland civil servants will not receive bonuses this year, The Stormont Finance Minister Sammy Wilson has said. Mr Wilson said he had considered all "relevant factors" - including public debate over public sector pay - and decided to cut the award scheme to top level workers.
