East Belfast Security Alert Declared 'Elaborate Hoax'

The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a security alert at the Henry Jones Playing Field in east Belfast on Sunday, 26 May.

A suspicious object was reported at the playing field in the Church Road area of Castlereagh shortly after 11.20am. Police and Army Technical Officers attended the scene and a number of road in the area were closed as the device was investigated. Following examination the device was declared an elaborate hoax and was subsequently removed for forensic examination.

Inspector Carey said: "Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting reference number 651 of 26/05/24.

Justice Minister 'Not Fighting The Corner For Police' – UUP
Justice Minister, Naomi Long, has been accused of "simply not fighting the corner for police", by Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) leader, Doug Beattie. Mr Beattie made the accusation in a statement addressing policing issues, which have been highlighted again by recent violence and disorder over the last week.

11 Police Station Enquiry Offices To Close On 01 August
The PSNI have confirmed that 11 police station enquiry offices will permanently close at the end of the month. The closures had been announced in April this year, due to "the current financial and resource pressures facing the Police Service of Northern Ireland", reducing the number of enquiry offices from 28 to 17.

Police Renew Appeal For Missing Teenager Rosaleen Connors
Police in east Belfast are renewing their appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of 16-year-old Rosaleen Connors, who has been missing for over a week. Rosaleen was last seen in the Sydenham Road area on Monday, October 7th, at approximately 9:30pm.
