Police attacked by petrol bombers on Springfield Road

Police officers called to investigate reports of youths attempting to block a road in west Belfast yesterday evening were attacked by petrol bombers.

At around 8.40pm, police responding to reports that youths were setting fire to tyres on the Springfield Road near to the Springfield Park junction were attacked by a group of youths.

The officers were called to protect Fire Brigade crews who were trying to deal with burning debris obstructing the road. The police and firefighters then came under attack by youths throwing stones, bottles and other missiles. A police spokesperson said that during the incident at least two petrol bombs were thrown causing minor damage to a police vehicle.

Police said that around 10.00pm, the nearby New Barnsley PSNI station also came under attack - a petrol bomb caused minor scorch damage.

No-one was hurt and police made no arrests during the incidents.

Rosslea police station attacked by republican youths
A police station in County Fermanagh was attacked by a crowd of republican youths on Sunday afternoon. Around 50 masked youths attacked the police station and caused damage to the exterior of the building. Police said that there had been no injuries during the attack.

Police attacked in west Belfast
Police have come under attack by a gang of youths in the New Barnsley Estate area of west Belfast yesterday evening. Petrol bombs, bricks and stones were among the “heavy missiles” thrown at police during the incident. A number of vehicles were also damaged on the Ballygomartin Road and a barricade was erected which blocked the Mountain Road.

Three police officers injured in car ramming
Three police officers have been slightly injured after their car was rammed from behind by another vehicle early this morning. The incident occurred when police signalled a car to pull over on the Buncrana Road in Londonderry at around 3.20am.
