Man And Woman Charged With Attempting To Make Explosives

A man and woman, both aged 40, are due to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court today, Thursday 16th May, charged with attempting to make explosives under suspicious circumstances and possessing firearms and ammunition in suspicious circumstances.

The arrests and charges follow a proactive search of a house in the Holylands area of south Belfast by detectives from Musgrave when a number of items were seized.

Detective Inspector Tom Phillips said: "We would like to thank the residents of Jerusalem Street and the surrounding areas for their patience over the past few days while this operation took place. If anyone has any information which they feel may assist us in our investigation, we would ask them to contact us on 101 quoting serial 1586 14/05/24."

Appeal Issued After Teenager Sexually Assaulted On Belfast Bus
Police have issued an appeal after a teenage girl was assaulted on a bus in Belfast. The girl was travelling on a bus between Belfast and Dunmurry at around 7.40pm on Friday, 30 August. Residents Escape Injury After Arson Attack In North Belfast
A number of residents have escaped injury following an arson attack at a flat in north Belfast. Liquid was poured over a door and set on fire at a property in the Skegoneill Avenue area on Thursday evening, 05 September. The NIFRS attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.

Pair Charged Over Co Armagh Security Alert
A man and woman are due in court over a security alert in Tandragee, Co Armagh. The blast bomb device was made safe after it was discovered during a police search in Woodview Park on Saturday 30 November. A 20 year-old woman and a 21 year-old man have been charged to appear before Newry Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Monday 02 December.

Driver Charged With Attempting To Murder PSNI Man
A north Belfast man has been remanded in custody after allegedly trying to run over a police officer in Co Down. Michael Ferguson, of Cliftonville Avenue, is being kept in custody on a charge of attempted murder after a police officer was hit by a stolen car in Newry.

Man Arrested Over George Gilmore Murder
Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the murder of loyalist George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. A 32-year-old man arrested on Sunday, 19 March, has been released.
