First And Deputy First Ministers Meet With US Special Envoy

The First and deputy First Ministers have met with US Special Envoy to NI for Economic Affairs Joe Kennedy, reaffirming their commitment to building prosperity through investment.

The Special Envoy is on a three-day visit to Northern Ireland and met with Michelle O'Neill and Emma Little-Pengelly to discuss a range of issues including the importance of strong working relationships, priorities for investment and the business environment here.

First Minister Michelle O'Neill said: "We met with Joe Kennedy this morning highlighting the shared priorities of our four-party coalition. We need to maximise the enormous economic opportunities that exist here.

"I am determined that we continue to grow our economy, create jobs and deliver for all our people."

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said: "Investment is key to delivering our economic potential and today's meeting was an opportunity to further discuss the role U.S. firms can play.

"Northern Ireland is a great place to live, visit and invest in and we appreciate the Special Envoy's support as we continue to highlight the benefits of doing business here and secure a brighter future for everyone."

Community Projects Receive £1.1m
A total of 16 community groups across Belfast have received total funding of just over £1.1m from City Council. The funding boost is being delivered through the £5m Local Investment Fund (LIF), which is part of the council's wider Investment Programme for the city. The move brings the overall amount allocated through the fund to over £2.

£1.25m For Belfast Community Projects
20 community regeneration projects across Belfast have received funding totalling £1.25m from the City Council. The funding is part of £5m set aside for the Local Investment Fund (LIF). Just under £1.3m is earmarked each to the North, South, East and West of the city and a further £490,000 allocated for the Shankill area.

US Envoy encourages Inward Investment in NI
Economy Minister Nigel Dodds has welcomed the statement by the US Special Envoy on her commitment encouraging inward investment for Northern Ireland. The statement followed a meeting with Paula Dobriansky, a group of US business leaders and five Northern Ireland Ministers including Mr Dodds.

Three Ballymena Special Schools to amalgamate
The government has today revealed that three Special Schools in the Ballymena area are to amalgamate. The schools - Beechgrove Special School, Dunfane Special School and Loughan Special School will amalgamate on the former site of Ballymena Boys' and Girls' Schools on completion of a new building.
