Man Arrested In Connection With 1992 Police Officer Murder

A 59-year-old man has been arrested at Birmingham Airport in connection with a fatal mortar attack in Newry in 1992.

The man was arrested on Wednesday, 21 February by detectives from PSNI's Legacy Investigation Branch, investigating the murder of Constable Colleen McMurray and the attempted murder of her colleague in 1992. Constable McMurray was the passenger in a police car when it was hit by a mortar as it travelled along Merchants Quay in Newry. Her colleague survived but lost both his legs.

The 59 year old man was arrested under the Terrorism Act at Birmingham Airport, with the assistance of Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands, and will be transported to Northern Ireland for questioning in the Serious Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. A man, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. Two other men were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder
A man arrested in connection with a murder in Lurgan on Sunday, 06 August, has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The body of a man, aged 45, was discovered at a flat on Victoria Street. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man Arrested Following Incident At House In Coleraine
A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident at a house in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. It happened at a property on Knockantern Grove in the Mountsandel area on Tuesday, 16 August. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of possessing of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an offence and assault on police.

1992 W Belfast Stabbing - Investigation Reopened
The PSNI has reopened an investigation into an incident in which a man in west Belfast was stabbed over 20 years ago. 25-year-old Patrick Sullivan was killed when he was stabbed on Matchett Street on 23 February 1992. A west Belfast man was later convicted of his manslaughter.
