22-Year-Old Man Jailed For Rape At Laganside Crown Court
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six years for rape at Laganside Crown Court.
Ahmad Alsbaihi was sentenced to six years. He will serve three years in custody and three years on licence. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.
Detective Constable Donnelly said: "Ahmad Alsbaihi took advantage of a vulnerable woman.
"His actions were callous, with total disregard to consent. There is no defence for disregarding sexual consent. Without consent, it is rape.
"We would like to commend a passer-by who intervened, and the victim for her bravery in working with Detectives throughout the investigation.
"The Police Service of Northern Ireland takes all reports of sexual assault seriously, and we urge anyone who has ever been the victim of sexual abuse to come forward and report it, regardless of when it happened, safe in the knowledge that they will be treated with respect and dignity. Report to Police on 101 on in an emergency always dial 999."

81-Year-Old Bangor Man Jailed For Historic Sexual Offences
An 81-year-old man has been jailed for three years for a number of historic sexual offences. David Parkinson, from Bangor, Co Down, was sentenced at Dungannon Crown Court for 12 offences including gross indecency, indecent assault and rape. The offences were committed between 1976 and 1983.

A 48-year-old has been sentenced to 16 years for a number of historical sexual abuse offences against a child, at Laganside Court. Tommy Harris will serve eight years in jail and eight years on licence. He will also be place on the sex offenders register for life. Harris's conviction comes after his victim waived her anonymity to speak out.

Launched in August 2023, the specialised training was delivered by Nexus, NI's leading sexual abuse and abusive relationships charity.

PSNI Launches Sexual Consent Awareness Campaign
A new sexual consent awareness campaign has been launched by the PSNI. The No Grey Zone campaign was announced by the PSNI in conjunction with a range of partner agencies including Nexus, Public Prosecution Service and Students' Unions both at Queen's and Ulster University.
