NIE Powerteam secure multi-million pound contract
NIE Powerteam has won a multi-million pound contract in the Republic of Ireland with electricity company ESB.
The contract will see electrical construction and refurbishment work on transmission substations in Counties Cork, Dublin and Sligo.
Work will commence with the construction of the Corduff 220kV Substation at Mulhuddard near Dublin. This will be Ireland's largest substation transmitting power in the greater Dublin area and providing a platform for industrial growth and domestic development.
Later in the year, further work will commence at Srananagh, near Sligo with another 220kV substation being constructed to help strengthen the network in the region.
Laurence MacKenzie, Managing Director, NIE Infrastructure welcomed the contract: "For some time now, we have been investing a great deal of time and effort in tailoring our contracting solutions to meet ESB's specific needs.
"Of particular satisfaction is the fact our staff with their unrivalled safety record and reputation for quality have competed successfully with similar contractors from across GB and Ireland. We will continue to play a leading role in investing in the skills that the all-island energy industry needs to underpin its future growth."
In parallel with these contracts, NIE Powerteam staff will refurbish a number of ESB's critical transmission substations around Cork, providing scope for even further economic growth in the region.
ESB's Executive Director for Networks, John Shine described the contract as further evidence of the growth of the electricity skills base in Ireland.
"ESB Networks is involved in refurbishing the electricity network across the Republic and NIE Powerteam has successfully responded to the specific needs of the project."

Road users are advised to plan for potential traffic delays in the south Belfast area on Friday, 15th November due to the UEFA Nations League football match between Northern Ireland and Belarus. The match will take place at Windsor Park, kicking off at 7.45pm, and it is expected that around 18,000 supporters will attend.

NIE Powerteam secures £2m in contracts
A Northern Ireland based high voltage power contractor, NIE Powerteam, has secured two major contracts worth £2 million that will create up to 50 new jobs. The two orders, when combined with other ongoing contracts, will lead to an additional 50 jobs, secure employment for 1,000, and protect existing jobs at the company.

Power Cut Affects Belfast Businesses
A number of shops in Belfast city centre were left without power due to a fault in an underground cable, NIE Networks has confirmed. Many shops and businesses were affected by the power cut which happened on Wednesday afternoon, 04 January. Power has now been restored to all properties.
